Jan Čmejla

Jan Čmejla, born in 2003 in Prague, is a prodigious pianist with a passion for music that began at the age of six. Jan's outstanding talent has been recognized through numerous accolades from esteemed music competitions where he emerged victorious, including the Virtuosi per musica di pianoforte in Ústí nad Labem (2013, 2018), Chopin for the Youngest (2015), Beethoven's Teplice (2018), and Concertino Praga (2019) to name only a few.

Notably, he was honored with the prestigious "Golden Nut" prize (2013) for the most talented children in the Czech Republic and the Kern Foundation Prize awarded by renowned pianist Olga Kern. In 2021 alone he received the 2nd prize at the Orbetello competition, the Victory Award at the Carles and Sofia International Piano Competition, and the Silva Monteiro prize for the best interpretation of a modern piece at the Santa Cecillia competition held in Porto, Portugal.

Jan's exceptional performances have taken him across the globe, with his debut recital in the United States at the prestigious Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Since then, he has had the privilege of performing with renowned orchestras, including the Brno Philharmonic Orchestra, the Prague Symphonic Orchestra, the North Czech Philharmonic Teplice, and the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra. Jan's collaborations extend to the Prague Music Festival, where he performed alongside acclaimed violinist Václav Hudeček.

Jan received his early musical education at the Music School of Ilja Hurník and the Secondary School and Music School of the City of Prague, studying under the guidance of professors Taťána Vejvodová and Lukáš Klánský. He currently pursues his musical education with Wolfram Schmitt-Leonardy at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Mannheim in Germany. Jan draws inspiration from the renowned Chinese pianist Lang Lang, whom he had the opportunity to meet in Vienna as a participant in the Allianz Junior Music Camp in 2015, which is annually dedicated to a dozen selected talents from around the world.
